  7. The Chapel Hill Volume Rendering Test Dataset, Volume I is a collection of
  8. the following seven data sets:

  10. Head data - A 109-slice MRI data set of a human head.  Complete
  11. slices are stored consecutively as a 256 x 256 array.  Pixels consist of 2
  12. consecutive bytes making one binary integer. Data taken on the Siemens
  13. Magnetom and provided courtesy of Siemens Medical Systems, Inc., Iselin, NJ.

  15. Head data information article - An ascii file containing acknowledgements
  16. for the head data files.
  17.  
  18. Knee data - A 127-slice MRI data set of a human knee.  Complete
  19. slices are stored consecutively as a 256 x 256 array.  Pixels consist of
  20. 2 consecutive bytes making one binary integer. Data taken on the Siemens
  21. Magnetom and provided courtesy of Siemens Medical Systems, Inc., Iselin, NJ.

  23. Knee data information article - An ascii file containing acknowledgements
  24. for the knee data files.

  26. HIPIP data - The result of a quantum mechanical calculation of a SOD
  27. data of a one-electron orbital of HIPIP, an iron protein. This
  28. is an ascii data set.  Provided courtesy of Louis Noodleman and David Case,
  29. Scripps Clinic, La Jolla, CA.

  31. HIPIP information article - An ascii file containing information
  32. about the HIPIP data.

  34. SOD data - An electron density map of the active site of
  35. SOD (superoxide dismutase).  This is an ascii data set.  Provided courtesy
  36. of Duncan McRee, Scripps Clinic, La Jolla, CA.

  38. SOD histogram - An ascii histogram of the SOD data set.  This
  39. is described in the previous file.

  41. SOD information article - An ascii file containing information
  42. about the SOD data set.

  45. The datasets were written on a Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) VAX 
  46. computer.  Each file contains only pixels, stored in row major order
  47. with 2-byte integers per pixel.  To use the images on machines that have
  48. normal byte order (DECs use reverse byte order), you should swap alternate
  49. bytes, for example using the 'dd' command in UNIX.
  50.  
  51. We do not object to your further distributing these datasets, but we
  52. request that full acknowledgement of the source of the data accompany
  53. such distribution.  If you are going to send a dataset to someone, please
  54. also send the accompanying information file.
  55.  
  56. For customers interested in purchasing the datasets on tape, both
  57. Volume I and Volume II can be purchased for $50.00 each, or
  58. $90.00 as a set.  The distribution is available in two different 
  59. formats.  The files on the tape will be written from a DEC VAX 
  60. computer using the UNIX file copy command 'dd' or the UNIX 'tar' 
  61. command.  Total block size is 8192 bytes written at 1600 bpi on 
  62. either a standard 1/2" magnetic tape or a cartridge tape.  
  63. Please specify your preference when ordering and note that 'dd' is
  64. not available with the cartridge tape.  Installation instructions
  65. accompany the distribution.
